Obituary of Mary Ann (Spatafore) Shull

Mary Ann (Spatafore) Shull passed peacefully from this world into the loving arms of our Lord Jesus Christ on March 1, 2022 surrounded by her family. She was 79 years old. She was born September 2, 1942 to the late Samuel Salvatore “Jack” and Mary (Mancina) Spatafore in Clarksburg, WV. Mary Ann attended St. Mary’s Grade School and graduated from Notre Dame High School. She later completed the Martinsburg Beauty Academy program and worked as a beautician before starting a family. On April 27, 1963 in Clarksburg, Mary Ann married the love of her life Ronald K. Shull of Baltimore, MD. They enjoyed over 58 years of marriage and had four children together: Michael Anthony Shull of Pittsburgh, PA; Janet Kay Shepherd, husband Bill of Bridgeport, WV; Thomas Allen Shull, Bridgeport, WV; and Mary Louise Lewis, Bridgeport, WV. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Michael Shull and wife Jackie, Philipp Shull and wife Jennifer, Sarah Shull, Zachary Shepherd, Brooke Shull, Brenna Shepherd, Jared Shepherd, Gabriel Shull, Maria Lewis, Callee Lewis, and Benjamin Lewis. In addition, she has one great-grandchild, Emma Shull. Mary Ann has a large extended family in the United States and Italy and is survived by her five brothers: Louis Spatafore and wife Maria, William Spatafore and wife Beckie, Joseph Spatafore and wife Joyce, John Spatafore and wife Beverly, and Samuel Spatafore and wife Sherry. She is also survived by countless nieces, nephews, and cousins. Our mother’s ability to make a house a home was unparalleled. She made a career of motherhood and cultivated a home full of love and rich with Italian heritage traditions. She was a good friend and sister-in-law who always had a listening ear and a good recipe to share. Her dedication to those she loved provided the perfect example of how to put family first. Her unique laughter was infectious and she naturally mothered all she knew. Throughout her lifetime, she enjoyed fresh vegetables from her garden, traveling to see family in Italy, taking cruises, going shopping, visiting her favorite places in Hawaii, and above all else, spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her true passion was her family. She made holidays special and gathered her loved ones every week for Sunday dinner. Our mother was kind and very generous. She cared for her own mother, her best friend, faithfully until her passing and cherished every moment of the life she built with our father. Mary Ann was an active member of All Saints Catholic Church in Bridgeport. She served as a communion minister and was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She served the church community with compassion and often visited the sick in nursing homes. Her love, lessons, and laughter have left an indelible mark on all who knew her. She will be profoundly missed. Her family will forever be her legacy and she will continue to live on through her future generations. While Alzheimer’s stole her last years from us, we know she’s living in joy and peace with our Lord. The family would like to express their gratitude to her loving in-home caregivers Rhonda Ward and Pat Guerra-Contreias. Also, thank you to the caring nurses, aides, doctors and staff of Amedisys Hospice, particularly Maria, Shaina Lynn, Alyssa, and Misty for their compassion. Friends will be received at All Saints Catholic Church, 317 East Main Street, Bridgeport, WV. on Friday from noon – 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM. A Vigil Service will be held in the church at 7:30 PM. Catholic Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated in the church on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at 11:00 AM with Reverend Father Walter Jagela presiding.
