Walter “June” Owens, Jr., 95, of Rivesville, passed away on Friday, February 11, 2022 at the Fairmont Medical Center in Fairmont. He was born July 23, 1926 in Rivesville, WV, a son of the late Walter Colbert Owens and Mabel M. Kincaid Owens McCloud. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Wanda L. Michael Owens in 2006. June was a graduate of Rivesville High School and a Christian by faith. He was a veteran with both the United States Navy and the United States Army having served during World War II. June was a retired coal miner with the Grant Town Mines Federal #1 where he worked as the motorman. June had an extensive garden from which he enjoyed canning. He was an excellent cook and enjoyed berry picking to make his special homemade pies. He was an avid dancer and especially loved square dancing. June was a member of the V.F.W., the Eagles of Fairmont, T.G.’s supper club, and the U.M.W.A. Survivors include his sons, Garry and his wife Sue Owens of Michigan, Larry Owens of South Carolina, and Michael and his wife Kristen Owens of Pennsylvania, his daughters, Candy and her husband Roy Weese of Rivesville, and Michelle Murphey of Fairmont. He is also survived by his brother Durward Owens and his companion Anne of Florida, as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, June was preceded in death by his infant brother, Edward Owens, and his brother, Donald and his wife Louise Owens, his daughter-in-law, Toby Owens, his son-in-law, Kenneth Murphey, and his sister-in-law Rose Owens. The family would like to thank all the staff, doctors, and nurses of Fairmont Medical Center for the kindness and care they extended towards Mr. Owens. The family has entrusted the arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, DeGarmo Chapel, 207 Second Street, Rivesville, WV. Friends and family are invited to visitation on Monday, February 14, 2022 from 4PM until 8PM, and on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 from 10AM until 11AM. The funeral will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday at 11AM with Pastor Roy Weese officiating. Interment will follow at the McCurdysville Cemetery in McCurdysville, WV.
