Obituary of Jacqueline Marie Fitzgerald Thomas
On Friday, February 4, 2022, Jacqueline Marie Fitzgerald Thomas of Bridgeport, WV returned home to be with her Heavenly Father. Her time on earth will be forever marked as a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend.
Jackie was born on September 9, 1934, in Buckhannon to the late Francis and Vesta Howes Fitzgerald. She is preceded in death by her brothers and sisters. Brothers, Conard “Bud” Fitzgerald, Robert Fitzgerald and Donald Fitzgerald. Her sisters, Betty (Fluharty), Kathleen (Riggleman), Carolyn (Richman) and Charlotte (Hyre). She is also preceded in death by her grandson, Chad Aric Thomas.
Jackie went to Buckhannon-Upshur High School where she graduated in 1952. In 1953, she married Robert R. Thomas and they remained married for 68 years. They had five children, Barbara Walker (William), Michael Thomas (Donna), David Thomas (Beth), Diane Walker (Thomas), and Christopher Thomas. Grandchildren whom she adored, Chad Thomas (Teresa), Shawn Thomas (Jessica), Rachel Thomas, Ian Walker, Ryan Walker (Elizabeth), Michael Walker (Brooke) and Alexandra Walker. She was also great-grandmother to Cade Thomas and Nina Walker.
Jackie enjoyed her life as a homemaker raising her five children. She also lived her catholic faith and embraced its Christian values. She attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Clarksburg where she was a member of the cleaning crew.
When the family lived in Weston, she was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. She took part in many functions through the years. She was a member and past president of the Catholic Daughters and a member of the St. Patrick’s School PTA.
Jackie loved listening to Elvis, going to WVU games, and long talks with her best friend of 80 years, Patty Gillie of Nashville, TN. It was like a family reunion during the fall, and she loved having family nearby.

The family will receive friends at Ford Funeral Home, Allen Chapel, 215 East Main St., Bridgeport, WV 26330, on Thursday, February 10, 2022, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. A vigil service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. The Catholic Funeral Liturgy will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 150 South Maple Ave., Clarksburg, WV 26301, on Friday, February 11, 2022, at 10 a.m. with Father Casey Mahone as celebrant.
