Obituary of Carolyn Sue Tatterson

Carolyn Sue Tatterson passed peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 7, 2021. "Sue" was born July 8, 1937, the beloved daughter of Marjorie Straight Cross and Thomas Glenn Cross in Fairmont, WV. She enjoyed a happy childhood, and later graduated from West Fairmont High School where she played in the band and became the majorette who was chosen as "Maid of Marion County" in 1954. Sue went on to graduate from nursing school in Fairmont, and soon became a Head Nurse at Fairmont General Hospital where she remained until she married Thomas Joseph Tatterson, April 29,1961. Soon thereafter, Sue and Tom moved to Cherry Hill, N.J. where their children, Thomas and Elizabeth were born. Sue was known as a very caring Mom, great wife and wonderful friend to all. Her beautiful smile, vivacious personality, dry sense of humor, outstanding cooking skills, and warm and caring demeanor will always be remembered by all who knew her. She became very active in the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, was Girl Scout cookie chairman, and was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church, Haddonfield, N.J. Sue and Tom moved to Illinois in 1982, and she decided to challenge herself in a new way, so she obtained her realtor's license and became a successful Century 21 realtor for 10 years. In1992, they decided to move back to their home state and chose to make Martinsburg their retirement destination. They joined First Baptist Church where Sue participated in Shared Word along with serving in other capacities. She loved her Olde Berkeley Garden Club, Ladies Book Club, the Women's Club of Martinsburg and the many friends she made in these clubs. While Sue enjoyed her many activities, her true passion was her family! She adored her grand-children, who called her Nana, and spent as much time with them as possible. She and Tom enjoyed many wonderful trips together and with the family throughout the years. She also enjoyed cheering for the Mountaineers during football and basketball season. In addition to her parents, Sue was predeceased in death by her dear grand-son, Evan Telfield Currie. She is survived by her husband, Tom; their son, Thomas Joseph Tatterson, daughter, Elizabeth Anne Tatterson Currie (Jeff), and dear former daughter-in-law, Janet Bangert. She is also survived by her grand-son, Eric Glenn Currie and Lily Sue Tatterson along with many nieces and nephews. Her caregivers, Tracy, Tiffany, Tara, and Summer became her family also. The family wishes to sincerely thank them along with the Hospice of the Panhandle team for their wonderful care. A celebration of Sue's life will be held at First Baptist Church, Martinsburg Saturday, August 14, 1:00, with reception to follow at the church. Friends and family may gather Sunday, August 15, 1:00 at Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, WV prior to internment at Mt. Zion Cemetery.
