Obituary of Lewis N. "Skip" Shroyer

Lewis N. (Skip) Shroyer, 72, passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at Mon General Hospital surrounded by family and friends. He was born May 24, 1944 to the late Lewis William Shroyer, Jr and Mildred (Daugherty) Shroyer in Fairmont. He attended East Fairmont High School and entered the US Army in 1963 spending 2 1/2 years in Germany. He was previously employed as a truck driver, wrecker operator, and spent 18 years at Arkwright Mine. He was Methodist by faith. Skip enjoyed many sports and hobbies prior to his illness: camping, boating, and riding his motorcycle. He was a car enthusiast, helped to build and work on several street rods and was a former member of the Big Boys Toys Car Club. He watched WVU and Steelers but especially enjoyed watching his grandson, Scotty, play high school football. Skip loved the beach and has spent his winters in Myrtle Beach the past six years. He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 9 and 32nd Scottish Rites of Morgantown. He previously rode with the Desert Caravan. Skip is survived by his loving wife, of nearly 50 years, Ann (West) Shroyer, loving father to Jeffrey Shroyer and wife Brandy, Kimberly Harsh and husband Roger, grandfather to Scotty and Melissa Shroyer and McKenzie Thorn, all of Fairmont. Also surviving are his brothers, John Shroyer and wife Linda, Richard Shroyer and wife Julie, two sisters-in-law, Susan Wright Shroyer and Debbie Greathouse Shroyer, a God daughter, Amy Branham and husband Bob, several nieces and nephews, and an uncle, Robert Daugherty. In addition to his parents, Skip was preceded in death by his brother, Tom, one year ago and his brother and best friend, Russell who passed only 14 hours after Skip. Memorial contributions can be made to Mon General Foundation’s Cardiac and Vascular Unit or Zelda Stein Weiss Cancer Center. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Doctors Morgan Lyons, John McKnight, John Lobbans and Dr. John Azar and staff for the care he has received the past 16 years. Family and friends may visit the Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, from 4-8pm on Saturday, August 27, 2016 and 12 noon -2pm on Sunday, August 28, 2016. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at 2 pm with Pastor Alan Rosenberger officiating. Military rites will be held in the funeral home by members of the United States Army. Skip has chosen cremation services to be held after the funeral.
