Obituary of O. Perry Morgan, Jr.
O. Perry Morgan, Jr., 92, of Fairmont, died in the presence of the Lord, surrounded by his family at home, on Wednesday June 9, 2021. He was born June 8, 1929 in Fairmont, a son of the late Oliver Perry, Sr. and Mildred V. Carney Morgan. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Joan M. Latham Morgan on August 25, 2013. They were united in marriage on March 13, 1953.
Perry was a 1947 graduate of East Fairmont High School. He attended Fairmont State College where he played football, then graduated from West Virginia University with his civil engineering degree. Perry then attended Officer Candidate School in Rhode Island, and served as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. Perry worked with the Ohio Department of Transportation, as well as the Portland Cement Association. He then worked for over twenty-five years with the WV Department of Highways as a civil engineer until his retirement in 1997.
Perry was a lifelong member of Gateway United Methodist Church where he held various positions within the church including; serving as chairman of the building committee, being a church trustee for many years, UMYF leader, and serving as head usher. Perry earned his Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America and was a past Scout Master of Troop #1. He and his father were honored to have a campsite at Camp Mountaineer named for them, “Camp Morgan”. He was very active in his childrens’ activities over the years which included coaching baseball teams and serving as a Busy Bee Band Booster and chaperone. Perry was a 50-year plus member of the Kiwanis Club of Fairmont. He was a huge fan of WVU basketball and football, enjoyed golfing, bowling, and hunting. He loved the outdoors and watching the wildlife in his backyard.
He is survived by his four children: David and his wife Cathy Morgan of Zanesville, OH, Robert Alan and his wife Louise Little Morgan of Fairmont, WV, Sandra Morgan Fennell and her husband Chris Fennell of Leesburg, VA, and Perry James and his wife Meg Berisford Morgan of Hilliard, OH, his twelve grandchildren: Megan Morgan, Molly and her husband Justin Moroose, Matthew and his wife Resa Morgan, Sarah and her husband Sam Miller, Andrew and his wife Elizabeth Morgan, Katie and her husband Tyler Reynolds, Julie Morgan and her fiancée Ethan Slaboden, Grace and her husband Don Bergin, Perry Albert Fennell and his fiancée Julia Shuart, C.J. and his wife Caitlyn Fennell, Ashley Morgan, and P.J. Morgan and his fiancée Alyssa LoVerso. He is also survived by his great grandchildren, Madigan and Sullivan Taylor, Emery, Eleanor, and Oliver Moroose, Evelyn, Logan, and Luke Miller, Lorelei Morgan, and Donnie Bergin, as well as his brother-in-law, Dr. James and Susan Latham, Jr. of The Villages, FL.

Friends and family may visit the Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV on Friday, June 11, 2021 from 6PM until 8PM, and on Saturday, June 12, 2021 from 11 AM until 2PM. The Celebration of Life service will be held in the funeral home at 2PM with Reverend Tim Edin officiating. Interment will follow at the Mt Zion Cemetery and Mausoleum.
