Obituary of Franklin E. Mayo

Franklin E. Mayo, 91, of Bridgeport, WV passed away Tuesday, June 1, 2021. He was born December 12, 1929 in Williamstown, WV, the son of the late Howard and Sylvia Mayo. Frank is survived by his wife of 65 years, Margaret (Woods) Mayo. He is also survived by four children, Steve Mayo and wife Carol of Dublin, OH, Becky Alastanos and husband Mike of Bridgeport, WV, Nancy White and husband Jeff of Alexandria, KY and David Mayo and wife Lisa of Dublin, OH. Mr. Mayo is survived by one sister Louise Jacobs and one brother H.W. “Bill” Mayo. He was preceded in death by two brothers John Mayo and Donald Mayo. Frank had fourteen grandchildren, Tiffany and Jennifer Alastanos, Allen, Marybeth, Sarah, Louie and Ben Mayo, Jessie (Jon) Erickson, Sydney, Rachel and Taylor White and Grace, Lindsay and Marie Mayo. Frank was a four year veteran of the United States Navy where he served on the USS Curtiss during the Korean Conflict. He retired from the Harrison County Board of Education where he was a plumber. Frank enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren especially at Thanksgiving when everyone got together. His hobbies included square dancing, playing golf at Lake Floyd, dominos and most lately working jigsaw puzzles. Frank was a member of Bridgeport United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the church at 251 Worthington Drive, Bridgeport, WV 26330 or to your favorite charity. Friends will be received at the Ford Funeral Home, 215 East Main Street, Bridgeport, WV on Friday from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be celebrated in the funeral home on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at 1:00 PM with Reverend James T. Lang presiding. The interment will follow in the Bridgeport Cemetery, Bridgeport, WV. Condolences may be extended to the family at www.fordfuneralhomes.com.
