Obituary of Paul David Helmick

Paul David Helmick, 78, of Lost Creek passed away on Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at United Hospital Center in Bridgeport. He was born in Morgantown on October 29, 1942, a son of the late Marshall James Helmick and Ruby Louise Dumire Helmick. Paul is survived by his loving wife Linda Kay Rohrig-Helmick; son, Paul David Helmick Jr. and his wife Erica of Clarksburg; daughters, Debra Alderson and her husband Greg of Jane Lew and Melanie Helmick of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Tyler Alderson, Carson Alderson, Orion Helmick, Audrey Helmick, Hannah Helmick, Elizabeth Bryant, Ben Bryant, Emily Lanham, and Haven Stanton; great-grandchildren, Analyn and Ariana Alderson; brothers, Allen Helmick and his wife Kay of Fairmont, Alston Helmick and his wife Patty of Fairmont, and Donald Helmick and his companion Dotty of Wardensville, WV; step-son, Jay Gobel of Parkersburg; and his pet dog, Jack. In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jolie Helmick and a brother, Harold Helmick. Paul was a 1960 graduate of Morgantown High School and was protestant by faith. He worked over 42 years as a machinist at Philips Lighting in Fairmont. Paul enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, traveling, and road trips, especially to Stockholm, Sweden. He was an avid outdoorsman but his real passion was cars. He enjoyed racing, car shows, and car restoration. He was inducted into the West Virginia Drag Racers Hall of Fame. The family requests memorial contributions be made in Paul’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 1000 Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908. The family will receive friends at Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, WV 26554, on Friday, June 4, 2021, from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Saturday, June 5, 2021, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. The funeral will be held in the funeral home on Saturday, June 5, 2021, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Mathew Keith officiating.
