Obituary of Twila Jean Shaver
Twila Jean Shaver, 87, of Fairmont, passed away on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 in her home. She was born November 19, 1933 in Plum Run, WV a daughter of the late Charles Ray and Mildred Talkington Toothman. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Mezger Shaver.
Twila was a 1951 graduate of Farmington High School as well as the Fairmont Business College. She was member of the Gateway United Methodist Church in Fairmont. She retired from Wesbanco Bank in Fairmont and formerly First National Bank with over 35 years of service as a bank teller. Twila was very involved with her church throughout her life and held many positions within church including several chairs within the United Methodist Women such as past president and vice-president. She enjoyed singing in the church choir and was a past member of the worship committee where she helped run the annual Advent Tea and establish the Chrismon tree. Twila was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and had enjoyed volunteering Fairmont General Hospital. She especially loved being a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority and participating in their many activities. Twila was a proud supporter of the Busy Bee Band Boosters for many years. She was an avid traveler having enjoyed traveling internationally to Australia and Belgium, as well traveling cross country, cruising to Alaska, many other stateside trips, and several trips to Myrtle Beach.
Twila is survived by her children, Robert Ray Shaver of Southern Pines, NC, and Karen and her husband Tom Reed of Fairmont, her grandchildren John Reed and his companion Elizabeth Williams of Fairmont, and Dalton McBryde of Southern Pines, NC, as well as her sisters, Joan Dugan of Myrtle Beach, SC, Betty Carlton of Australia, and Ann Toothman of North Myrtle, SC, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sister Dora Jane Wolfe.
The family requests memorial donations be made in Twila’s honor to Gateway United Methodist Church, 301 Diamond Street, Fairmont, WV 26554.
The family has entrusted the arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV 26554. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic it is required that masks be worn and social distancing be maintained for all arrangements. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 17, 2021 from 2PM until 8PM, and on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 from 10AM until 11AM in the funeral home. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 11AM with Reverend Tim Edin officiating. Interment will follow at the Viewpoint Cemetery in Rachel, WV.
