Mike I am so sorry for your loss. My dad passed away in January and it is the hardest thing to realize I can't pick up the phone to talk to him. Remember your dad and the fun times you had with him and they will provide you with a sense of comfort. Hugs and prayers for you and your family.

Bobby, Mike, and family,
So grateful that we had the chance to get to know John and that all of you became part of our family 19 years ago. It has enriched our lives in so many ways. Will miss talking to him about West Virginia politics and history, his warm welcome, twinkling eyes, and laughter during our visits.
With all our love and condolences,
John, Betsy and boys

Five years ago we bought a home with one of Mr.DeMary's bluebird boxes on the property. When we hatched our first clutch, we spoke over the phone. We've been joyful bluebird landlords ever since. The gift of his birdhouse has given us hundreds of hours of enjoyment. His legacy lives on in his extraordinary family. Our love and prayers, as you grieve your loss and celebrate a life well lived.

John and my father met in the military and in the four years they spent together their friendship grew into a lifelong bond. While my father often spoke of John, I didn't meet him until dad passed away in 1972. John was avid writer and often shared his wartime diaries with my family. My brothers and I really enjoyed those stories. Those journals gave my daughters an opportunity to learn more about a grandfather they never had the privilege of knowing. For that, I am forever grateful. John will be dearly missed.

John and my father were best friends for their entire military service years. When my dad died in 1972, John came to Chicago to attend the funeral and afterward kept in contact with my family for the rest of his life, an enduring testimonial to the bond the two of them had. I just spoke with him a few weeks ago. It was a genuine honor to know the man. He considered the Barry family his and we considered him as part of ours. His bluebird house #699 is in use in my back yard and I often watch mother birds feed their young which are safely tucked inside out of harms way. In so many ways, John DeMary is truly an American hero. May God speed John. I'm sure you and the old man have already shared a few laughs since being reunited.

I never met this old gentleman. Although his daughter in law is my first cousin, I have heard of him all my life. My mother knew the Demary brothers, and always spoke highly of them and their family. The old store was a constant in my childhood. From the tone of this obituary it is evident that he was a loving, talented, much loved man. My heart and sincerest condolences go out to children, grandchildren, family and friends. I know he was beloved to many, and will be dearly missed. Obviously, his was a life well lived, and what a legacy that is. Love to you all, during this difficult time.
