Gladys Virginia Stonestreet Metz, 95, of Fairmont, WV, passed away early Friday morning in Fitzwater’s Assisted Living. Daughter of the late Letcher Shelton and Anna Carroll Stonestreet, she was born March 26, 1921 at her family home in Gassaway, WV. Gladys was preceded in death by her husband Gerald O. Metz, who died in 2001. As an active member of Gateway United Methodist Church in Fairmont, WV, she was a 65 year member and Past-president of the United Methodist Women, a past circle leader of the Women’s Society (Mary Priscilla Group), and earlier active in the Win 1 Sunday School Class. Gladys served as Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star, Chapter 34, of Fairmont, WV. She was active with the Ladies Shriners, Isis Court #1. As an avid gardener, Gladys was a member of the Morning Garden Club of Fairmont, WV. During her later years, she became an honorary member of the Hill Lilies in Greenboro, NC. Survivors include her 3 daughters; Nancy Metz Moore, and her husband Alexander “Mac” Moore of Greensboro, NC, Rebecca Keller, and her husband Lester “Bud” Keller, Jr. of Fairmont, WV, and Patte Metz, and her husband Robert Evans of Alexandria, VA, 2 sisters, Opal Smith of Gassaway, WV and Alma Boles of Ravenna, OH, 1 brothers, Earl Stonestreet of Rootstown, OH, 3 grandchildren; Elizabeth Moore and Craig Rouse of Greensboro, NC, Alexander McLean and Karen Moore of Greenboro, NC, and Matthew and Lisa Keller of Morgantown, WV, and 4 great grandchildren; Stockton McLean Rouse, Caroline Harrington Moore, Katherine Stockton Moore, and Kase Paxson Keller. She was preceded in death by 4 sisters; Hazel Faust, Susie Kuhn, Glenda Lemon, and Joan Lassiter, and 2 brothers; Virgil and Russell Stonestreet. In celebrating her life, a memorial service will be held Friday afternoon, 8-12-2016, at 1pm in Gateway United Methodist Church, with Rev. Tim Edin officiating. Family and friends are invited to attend a reception following the service in Asbury Hall. The family requests that memorial donations be made to a charity of their choice.
