Obituary of Alice R. Brake

Alice R. Brake, 91, of Bridgeport passed away on Friday, March 26, 2021, at her residence. Alice was born in Charleston, WV on February 27, 1930, the daughter of the late George Ghram Robinson and Margaret Elizabeth Calvert Robinson Haviland. Alice is survived by her loving husband, Neil L. Brake of Bridgeport; daughter, Alice Osbourn and her husband Bill of Bridgeport; grandchildren, Neil Zahradnik and his wife Emily of Martinsburg and Adam Zahradnik and his wife Bethany of Bridgeport; four great-grandchildren, Geo Zahradnik, Miakai Zahradnik, Nika Sloan Zahradnik, and Forrest Gabriel Zahradnik; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by her brother, George Calvert Robinson. Alice was a 1948 graduate of East Bank High School and a graduate of Marshall University and West Virginia University. She was a retired teacher and had worked for the Kanawha and Harrison County Boards of Education and belonged to and was a past president of the Delta Kappa Gamma Teachers Honorary. Alice was a member of Bridgeport United Methodist Church where she helped and volunteered with the children’s choir, was a Sunday school teacher, and a member of the quilters group. She was a talented water color artist and helped found the Harrison County Water Color Society. Alice was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was an avid quilter for her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and others. The family requests memorial contributions be made in Alice’s memory to Bridgeport United Methodist Church, 251 Worthington Drive, Bridgeport, WV 26330. The funeral service will be held at Bridgeport United Methodist Church, 251 Worthington Drive, Bridgeport, WV 26330, on Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at 11 a.m. with Reverend Dr. Ken Ramsey officiating.
