Obituary of Jack William Wright

Jack William Wright, 86 years of age of Fairmont, WV passed away on Sunday, March 7, 2021 at his residence. He was born January 23, 1935 in Marion County the son of the late John Edward and Alice Ellen Springer Wright. He is survived by his companion of thirty-one years Ester Szczyt; three sons Bill Wright, Mark Wright and is wife Deborah and Jackie Wright all of Fairmont, WV; two step-daughters Deanna Bland and husband Anthony of Fairmont, WV and Tammy Eye of Fredericksburg, VA; one sister Mary Ellen Haney of Fairmont, WV; nine grandchildren Michael Wright, Andrea Wright, Brandi Herndon, Ashley Williams, Mikhaela Funk, Carissa Funk, Lauren Eye, Austin Eye and Landon Eye; six great grandchildren and numerous cousins. He was also preceded in death by his wife Mary Ann Wright; two brothers Edward and George Wright and a great grandson Barrett Masters. Jack graduated from East Fairmont High School where he was member of the football team. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He served on the U.S.S. Saratoga and was part of an elite group known as the “Blue Noses” that crossed Antarctica. In 1963, he began work at Fairmont State College and became the manager of the student center known as “The Nickel” He retired after thirty-seven years of service to the college. He enjoyed playing golf with friends at local courses. Many of those moments were at White Day Golf Course. Fishing gave him the opportunity to spend time with his sons and making great memories on the Tygart River. He cheered on the Mountaineers and was a faithful fan of basketball and football.
