Obituary of Billie Leah Summers

Billie Leah Ogden Summers, 73, of Fairmont, passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 in her residence. She was born January 21, 1948 in Fairmont, a daughter of the late William Harold and Lucille L Holt Ogden. Billie was a 1966 graduate of East Fairmont High School. She was a member of the Gateway United Methodist Church in Fairmont and formerly of Christ United Methodist Church in Fairmont where she was a member of the choir. Billie retired from the WV Department of Health and Human Resources office where she served as a social worker for over 30 years. She was a member of the Red Hats, the Fairmont Women’s Club, the American Legion, and the Professional Business Women’s Association. Billie was a talented singer and had attended the academy of music in Winchester, VA to study opera vocalism. Survivors include her sons, James D. and Pamela Sue Stewart, II of Fairmont, and Harold and Laurie Ann Summers, of Fairmont, her grandchildren, James D. “J.D.” Stewart, III, Cierra Nicole Stewart and her companion Matthew Galanti, Dakota William Summers, Devon Andrew McDaniel, and Ashley Lambert, as well as her great-grandchildren, Zachary John James Stewart, Calvin Ryan William Galanti, Jeremiah Wade McDaniel, Willow McDaniel, and Devon McDaniel, Jr.. She is also survived by her brother Paul Lynn, her cousin, Marcella Yaremchuk and her family, and her previous husband, James Dale Stewart. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Raymond “Jumbo” Lynn. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. The family has entrusted the arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic it is required that masks be worn and social distancing be maintained for all arrangements. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 19, 2021 from 11AM until 1PM in the funeral home. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 1PM with Reverend Jim Zinn officiating.
