Obituary of Mavis McCoy Fluharty

Mavis McCoy Fluharty, 92, of Fairmont, passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at the home of her daughter in Caldwell, OH. She was born on January 6, 1929 in the Hagan’s Community in Monongalia County, WV, a daughter of the late Herbert Roscoe and Eunice Bell Wilson Michael. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Fred R. Fluharty. Mrs. Fluharty was a member of the White Hall Church of Christ and a former member of the Oakwood Road Church of Christ in Fairmont. She was a graduate of Morgantown High School and earned her practical nursing degree from the Morgantown Vocational Technological School. Mavis retired in 1994 from the Marion County Assessor’s Office where she served for over 17 years as the Deputy Assessor. She enjoyed traveling as well as her needle work. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son William Berl and Donna McCoy of Fairmont, her daughters, Darlene and Dr. J.B. Wallace of Rock Hill, SC, Arlene and Harry Summers of Caldwell, OH, and Rebecca McCoy of Fairmont. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, her sister, Sarah Boggs of Fairmont, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband Jesse Berl McCoy, her step-children, Jeffrey Fluharty of Fairmont and Bonnie Knoll of Fairmont, three brothers, five sisters, and one great-grandchild. The family has entrusted the arrangements to the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we appreciate that attending a visitation may not be in your best interest. Should you be able to celebrate her life, it is requested that masks be worn by friends and family who will be received at the White Hall Church of Christ, 3546 Fairmont Avenue, Fairmont, WV 26554, in order to utilize the church and allow for social distancing, on Saturday, January 23, 2021, from 10 AM until 12 noon. The funeral will be held in the church on Saturday at 12 noon with Evangelist Harry Summers and Evangelist Kevin Lough officiating.
