Dear Mr. Mac, Patrick, and family, I'm so sorry to hear of Mrs. McConnell's passing. I was glad to have had the chance to speak with her briefly at the alumni band event two years ago. I'll always remember she and Mr. McConnell, Sr. dancing together after the last night of Follies one year while we played Embraceable You. She was a classy lady and a fine English teacher, too.

The first time I met Millie was during a Follies rehearsal my first year as choreographer for the Honeybees. I could not have been more nervous or intimidated to have the legendary originator of the group viewing the rehearsal. However, she could not have been more kind, supportive, and encouraging to me, always. I will forever be grateful for that and for the honor of carrying on her work and her legacy. My love and prayers for her amazing family who have cared so lovingly for her these last few years.

I extend my deepest sympathy to the family in the loss of one of the most beautiful and influential people in my life. Always energetic, always a smile, always an innovative way of teaching. There are only four teachers I remember in such a way, and she was in the top two. She will always be remembered.

I can’t say enough about the love and commitment this family gave to it’s Busy Bee Family. I will never forget Millie and how dedicated she was to making us the best dance team and kick line around. Sometimes I couldn’t feel my legs after kicking higher and higher for hours. I have love and fond memories of Earl, Earl Jr., Millie, and Patrick. Love and prayers ❤️❤️❤️

I worked with Millie over 40 years ago at Fairmont Senior. I remember her talking about she and Earl having a small drink on Friday evening to celebrate another week. One day at work we traded stories about the day and she commented,”When I get home, I may pretend it is Friday.”
Millie was exuberant as a person and a teacher.

Mrs. McConnell was my sophomore English teacher at East Fairmont High School. She did a wonderful job and helped inspire me to pursue a teaching career myself. I always remember her as being positive and having a smile on her face with sparkling eyes. She was truly one of the best in her field. I also had the opportunity to know her son, who was a wonderful person, due to the family environment created by his parents. I know she will be missed.

I’m so very sorry to learn of your loss. May your mom’s memory always be a comfort to you. I lost my mom in 2012. This poem has always brought me comfort when I was down. I hope it helps you too.
Gone From My Sight
By Henry Van Dyke
I am standing upon the seashore. A ship, at my side,
spreads her white sails to the moving breeze and starts
for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength.
I stand and watch her until, at length, she hangs like a speck
of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.
Then, someone at my side says, "There, she is gone."
Gone where?
Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast,
hull and spar as she was when she left my side.
And, she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.
Her diminished size is in me -- not in her.
And, just at the moment when someone says, "There, she is gone,"
there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices
ready to take up the glad shout, "Here she comes!"
And that is dying...A horizon and just the limit of our sight.
Lift us up, Oh Lord, that we may see further.

What I will remember most about my dear Aunt Millee are her clear, sparkling, piercing, bright blue eyes. When she looked at you, she saw your soul. You couldn't hide anything from her, but you didn't want to because her eyes welcomed you in and let you know all would be alright. Giving thanks for the gift of her profound influence on my life and the lives of so many.

Mrs. McConnell was one of the most gracious ladies I have known. She always had positive words. When I was advisor for Polar Bear majorettes and Dance Team, she always gave me words of encouragement.
I know so many that had the honor of knowing her better than I and they loved her. She definitely has earned her angel wings. Prayers for her family.

I was Millie's neighbor twice. Once when she lived on Peacock Lane and I was very young, and again when I moved near her Henry Drive home 15 years ago. I grew up with her sons and I liked her very much. I am saddened by her passing but I believe she lived a long and happy life. Rest in peace.
