Obituary of Alma Jane Harris

Alma Jean Harris, 85, of Rivesville, passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2020, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. She was born December 28, 1934 in Oxford, WV (Doddridge County) a daughter of the late Oval Edison and Daphne Pearl Jones Collins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond L. Harris. Alma was a member of the McCurdysville United Methodist Church where she was a former Sunday School teacher. She had previously worked at the Mid-City Bowling Alley in the daycare center, but considered herself first and foremost a homemaker and mother. Alma was a caregiver to many including her husband, her children and grandchildren, as well as an in-home caregiver to many elderly patients throughout the years. She was a hardworking woman, having worked her family farm for many years. She had volunteered for several years with the Soup Opera. She enjoyed listening to the radio and loved all kinds of music, as well as singing throughout the day. She loved reading, word searches, and bingo. She absolutely loved family gatherings of picnics and cookouts, as well as visiting with her niece Hillary. She is survived by her children, Frankie Harris of Blacksville, Robert (Marion) Harris of McCurdysville, Jody (Donna) Harris of McCurdysville, Sunday (Robert) Berry of Daybrook, Karen (Richard) Bell of McCurdysville, son-in-law, Denzil Cogar of Grafton, her sister, Deloris (Charles) Moore of White Hall, her sisters-in-law, Helen Collins of Monongah and Lee Collins of Shepherdstown, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Alma was preceded in death by her son, Jesse Harris, her daughter, Tammy Cogar, and her siblings, Ira B. Collins, Robert Collins, Jean (Kenneth) Sigley, Betty (James) Peirce, Ruby (Scott) Fast, and two infant siblings. The family has entrusted care and arrangements to the Ford Funeral Home, DeGarmo Chapel, 207 Second Street, Rivesville, WV. Should you be able to celebrate her life, friends will be received at the funeral home on Saturday, December 26, 2020 from 2PM until 8PM, as well as on Sunday, December 27, 2020 from 12 noon until 2PM. The funeral will be held in the funeral home on Sunday, December 27, 2020 at 2PM with Reverend Stanley Merrifield officiating. The interment will follow at the McCurdysville Cemetery, McCurdysville.
