Obituary of William "Bill" Leroy Gross

William “Bill” Leroy Gross passed away Saturday, December 19, 2020 at John Manchin Senior Health Care Center. He was born May 21, 1930 in Fairmont, WV, a son of Clark Howard and Edna Grace Crowl Gross. He was married on April 30, 1950 to Betty Gene Thompson Gross, who preceded him in death in September 1999. He is survived by his five children: Melanie Dignan, Brenda Hudnall, Rachel Merrifield (Gary), Jamie Gross, and Amy Rogers (Kevin) all of Fairmont, his sister Catherine Jeanne Sarver of Vero Beach, FL, sister-in-law Martha Gross of Fairmont, 11 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and numerous friends. In addition to his parents and his wife, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph, Robert, and James Gross, a sister Betty Jane Jones, and sons-in-law Vincent Brancato, John Dignan, and Mike Hudnall. The family wishes to thank the wonderful, caring staff at John Manchin Senior Health Care Center, where he had been a resident since April 2017. In lieu of flowers or food, the family requests donations to the: JMSHC Resident Council, 401 Guffey Street, Fairmont, WV 26554. In keeping with his wishes, and as a testament to his lifelong practice of helping others, his body was donated to the WVU Human Registry. The family will hold a service at a later date.
