Obituary of Glenda Mae Phillips Laska

Glenda Mae Phillips Heston Laska, 91, of Fairmont, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2024 at her residence with her family by her side. She was born November 25, 1932 in Idamay, WV, a daughter of the late John T. and Nora Hall Phillips. She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Lewis Alexander Laska. Glenda was a graduate of Shinnston High School and later attended both Fairmont State College and WV Technology School. She was a Methodist by faith and served her family as a domestic engineer for over 24 years. She retired in 2004, with over 17 years of service, as a computer instructor with the Human Resource Develop Education Center. She had previously worked as the Acting Director of the Marion County Parks and Recreation Department, as well as, 15 years with Monongahela Power as the supervisor of commercial building department, and with Owens Illinois in the keypunch department. After her retirement, Glenda obtained her general insurance agent license, and worked with American Life Insurance Company as an insurance agent. Glenda was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary of Morgantown, a past member of the Business and Professional Womens’ Club of Morgantown, as well as the Monongahela Girls Club. She was a member of the American Federation of Teachers Local #1009 of Morgantown. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters, Nora L Heston and her companion Robert Bagby of Raleigh, NC, and Janet M. Heston of Fairmont, and her four grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Warene Laska of Arizona, as well as several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces, and great nephews. Glenda was preceded in death by her son, Criss A. Heston, her brother, John T. Phillips II, her sisters, Rosa Lee Babbitt and Noreen Duncan, and her brother-in-law, Jerry Laska Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 122 South High Street, Morgantown, WV 26501. The family would like to extend a grateful thank you to WV Caring Hospice and their staff for the assistance and comfort they provided. The family has entrusted the arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV. Friends and family are welcome to visit on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 from 6PM until 8PM and on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 from 9AM until 10AM. The funeral will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday at 10AM with Pastor James Saunders officiating. Entombment will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Fairmont, WV.
