Obituary of Lila Nell Mercer

Lila Nell Boore Mercer, 90, of Fairmont, West Virginia died Thursday, January 4, 2024 at the United Hospital Center, Bridgeport, West Virginia. She was born May 24, 1933 in Fredericktown, P.A., a daughter of the late Oren O. and Mary N. Moore Boore. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Mercer on April 8, 2019. Mrs. Mercer was a member of the Life United Methodist Church in Fairmont and was a 1951 graduate of Fairview High School. She retired as an accounts clerk from Hope Gas where she served in many departments over her 30 year career. Lila and her husband were members of the WV Travelers and traveled extensively all over the world. She was a past member of the Red Hats, enjoyed walking the Middletown Mall with her friends, and attending her McDonald’s coffee club. She enjoyed watching her game shows, working her daily crossword, and playing cards, especially pinochle which she did not like to lose. She was a beautiful seamstress and quilter. She made her childrens’ clothing, wedding dresses, homecoming and prom dresses. Lila enjoyed gardening and tending her flower beds. She was an avid reader, usually finishing two books a week. She was a big fan of Mountaineer football, the Steelers, as well as the Pirates. She enjoyed hosting family holiday dinners and following her grandchildren in their sporting events. She spent many hours at football games, wrestling meets, soccer and baseball games. Mrs. Mercer is survived by 3 daughters and 3 son in laws, Susan & Michael Bushko of Fairmont, WV, Karen & Jeff Noechel of Fairmont, WV and Diana & Howard Miller of Myrtle Beach, SC, 7 grandchildren and their spouses Aaron & Erin Bushko, Kara & Travus Oates, Kelly & Matthew Cutrone, Jeff & Crystal Noechel, Corey & Kalyn Noechel, Matthew Miller and Adam Miller, 11 great grandchildren Kylie Bushko, Nolan Bushko, Easton Cutrone, Ella Bushko, Abi Cutrone, Sara Noechel, Tucker Noechel, Roslyn Noechel, Sutton Noechel, Garrett Oates, Tatum Oates, and one on the way. She is also survived by her sister, Linda & Jim McKain of NC, her brother-in-law and sister- in-law Richard & Diane Mercer of Fairview, WV, 2 sisters-in-law, Mary Schipono of Fallbrook, CA and Ruth Cutrone of Fairview, WV, her brother-in-law Mike Konoski of Federalsburg, MD, as well as numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her siblings: Nancy & Bud West, Donald & Rosemarie Boore, Doris &Jack Binnix, and John Tom & Ramona Boore, a sister-in-law Martha Konoski, and brothers-in-law Frank Schipono and Sam Cutrone. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Life United Methodist Church, Missions Fund, 3000 Technology Drive, Fairmont, WV 26554. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV 26554. A private visitation and funeral service will be held for the family.
