Obituary of Jackie Russell Hayhurst

Jack Russell Hayhurst, 83, of Fairmont, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at the WVU Medicine Fairmont Medical Center. Jack was born March 5, 1940 in Fairmont, a son of the late Howard R. and Anna L. (Corbin) Hayhurst. He was preceded in death by the love of his life Rose Marie “Toddy” Merrifield Hayhurst, one brother, Jim and a sister, Betty Baker. He is survived by a step-son- and step daughter-in law Robert “Jack” and Susan Dempsey with whom he spent every holiday dinner over the past 50+ years. In earlier years Jack and Toddy enjoyed spending quality time with granddaughter, Jaycee, and most recently Jack looked forward to visits from great granddaughter, Vesper Evelyn whom she lovingly called him Granpa Jack. Jack enjoyed watching all the old westerns and followed WVU basketball and football religiously. Jack formerly worked for Coyne Textile, Coca Cola and Fisher Auto Parts. In his earlier years he bottled milk on a dairy farm in Colfax with his father. He enjoyed telling stories of life on the farm, especially the dairy cows. The family has entrusted the arrangements to the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV 26554.
