Obituary of James Herman "Jim" Griffith

James Herman “Jim” Griffith, of Fairmont WV passed away on Thursday August 24th at the age of 78 surrounded by family at Ruby Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. Jim was born in Colfax in Marion County on November 19, 1944 a son of the late Gerald and Nondise Griffith. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings. His brother Tom, and 3 sisters Dolores, Karen and Shirley. He is survived by his Sister-In-Law Mary Griffith of Williamstown, WV. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Janice Elane Oliver Griffith. Jim and Janice were married on August 6, 1965. In addition to his wife Janice, Jim is survived by his 3 children, 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. His son James “Eric” Griffith, and his children Zachary and Paige of Fairmont. His Daughter Janell Joseph and husband Matt of Martinsburg, WV and their children Gavin Joseph and his wife Megan and great-granddaughters Palmer and Evie of Rivesville, WV, granddaughters Abigail, Ella, Jadelynn, Morgan and Mya. His Daughter Jodi Hall and husband Roy of Bridgeport, WV and their children Patrick, Landon, Ryan and Harrison. Jim is also survived by a large extended family whom he was very close with including his Aunt Christine Hostutler, cousins Sherry and Eddie Hill, Corki and Tom Pollock and Jack and Chris Stewart and Caroline Hostutler. His niece Krissy Six and husband Steve who have been at his side throughout this illness. His dear friends Roger Villinger and Chuck Satterfield of Fairmont were like brothers to him. Jim graduated from East Fairmont High School and briefly attended Fairmont State University before beginning to work at J&S Machine Shop in Fairmont where he worked for over 30 years. He was a machinist by trade and a master at his craft. He could build and design anything you could imagine from the simple elegant doll-house for a grand-daughter to top-secret defense department equipment used oversees in the war on terror. Jim was a very humble man who loved spending time with his family and traveling with his beloved wife, Janice. They share many great memories with one another. He loved watching his grandchildrens’ school and athletics events and rarely missed anything. He was a true role-model of a Husband, Father and Grandfather and he will be missed terribly by everyone who knew him. The family would like to extend our profound gratitude to Dr’s Jossalyn Mann and Sonikpreet Aulakh who provided superb care over his extended illness. Additionally, the staff at Ruby Memorial Hospital especially the caring and gentle colleagues on the 5th floor Medical Intensive Care unit who provided tremendous care during this difficult last week. Finally, the family would like to thank Haylee, Kaylee, Liz, and Jessica for being Dad’s angels. They were simply wonderful to Jim and our whole family. The family has entrusted the arrangements to the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV 26554. Friends will be received on Sunday, August 27, 2023 from 12 p.m. until 8 p.m. Visitation will continue Monday, August 28, 2023 from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Monday at 1 p.m. with Pastor Nathan Barker officiating.
