John Carlot

Obituary of John David Carlot

John “David” Carlot passed away peacefully in his home on August 5th at the “beautiful” age of 85, after an extended battle with cancer. He was born on July 3, 1938 in Monongah West Virginia to Julius and Gene Carlot (Galozzi). He attended Monongah High School where he was a multisport athlete who excelled in football becoming an all-state athlete and member of the state football championship teams. This led to a spot on the WVU Mountaineer football team. He then met and married Caroline Richards, the love of his life…a fiery blonde that filled his life with excitement and children. David started his career at Lockheed Martin as a young executive in Clarksburg WV moving to Marietta Ga. Missing family and his beloved state he and Caroline made the decision to move their young family back to WV and opened their first business. After years of hard work and success he served on many community boards along with the First National Bank Board and Wesbanco. He was a very active member of Christ Episcopal Church of Fairmont for many years. Throughout his life he and Caroline enjoyed spending time with family and their beloved friends, and their many travels together. He was an avid hunter and skier but his true passion was the game of golf that he enjoyed throughout his life with his cherished friends and grandchildren. A true patriarch of his family they regarded him as a source of strength, stability, and unwavering character. He was always a handsome man but what everyone will remember was his warm positive smile followed by a hug and a joke. David was preceded in death by his parents and sister Joyce Carlot Pellillo along with his grandson Josh Miller. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Caroline Carlot. A son Greg and wife Linda DeWitt of Fairmont and their children, Rebecca and Kurt Walters and Emilie and Tom Lewis . Daughter Tammy Miller and husband Steve and their children Andrew and Ryan Miller. Daughter Cheri Satterfield and husband Steve Holbert and their children Lindsey Satterfield, Ryan and Allura Holbert, Trey and Kelsey Satterfield, Meredith and Tim Shaver, Brittany Satterfield and Jeff Rowland, Clint and Brielle Holbert, Grant Holbert, Gannon and Peyton Satterfield. On the day of his passing one grandson said” well we still have a big happy family” and another said “It was because of him!” This truly sums up a “beautiful life”. He will be missed by many.
