Obituary of Howard Lee Gump Jr.

Howard Lee Gump Jr., 79, passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 in the Mon Health Medical Center, Weston, West Virginia. He was born April 16, 1943 in Mannington, WV a son of the late Stella Gertrude Price. Mr. Gump attended St. Matthew United Methodist Church in Weston. He was very proud of his faith, as he was recently baptized. He is survived by two sons, David and his wife Debbie Gump of Weston and Thomas Gump and his companion Susan Sellars of Morgantown, one brother, Walter Gump of Morgantown, five grandchildren, Ashlie Mecure and her husband Andrew, Kellie Gump, Tyler Gump, Dylan Gump, and Delaney Gump, and three great grandchildren, Nova Vangilder, Lainey Mecure, and Everleigh Ruiz. He is survived by his friend and companion, Betty NeSmith. Mr. Gump was the proud owner and operator of Howard Gump Transport Company for 17 years. He was also a former truck driver for the Berry Trucking Company of Rivesville, WV. He enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson Motorcycle, watching NASCAR, and dirt track racing, where he cheered on his favorites, #14 Gary Dalton and #0 Steve Baker. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren and spending time with them. He was a caring, compassionate, giving person, who never knew a stranger. He was a friend to all. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Marvin Gump & Charles Gump, and one half-sister, Ann Murphy. In Mr. Gump’s memory, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice. The Gump family has entrusted the care and arrangements to the Ford Funeral Home, DeGarmo Chapel, 207 Second Street, Rivesville, WV 26588. The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 2, 2023 from 5-8 p.m. and Friday, March 3, 2023 from 10-11 a.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Friday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jim Martin officiating.
