Obituary of John H. Everson
John H. Everson, 88, a lifetime resident of the Bellview Community, Fairmont, West Virginia passed away on Wednesday, October 17, 2018. He was born August 23, 1930 in Bellview, the youngest child of H. King and Elizabeth C. Kann Everson. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gladys Mae Stevens Everson on July 1, 2017.
Mr. Everson is survived by a daughter Linda K. Rutherford of Cooperstown, NY, a son and daughter in law John & Brenda Everson of Fairmont, WV, 6 grandchildren Amy R. Cortez, David B. Rutherford Jr., Rose Maria Headley, Kristy Dawn McCombs, John Michael Clay & his wife Jessica Clay and Nicole D. Everson, 9 great grandchildren Andrew and Maegan Headley, William and Thomas Montgomery, Michael, Joseph, and Jayson McCombs and Brayden and Emily Clay and several cherished nieces and nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by a brother Bernard “Bus” Everson, 3 sisters and their spouses Wilma and George Stanton, Anna Louise and Richard Watkins, Olive Marie and Edward Haught, a son-in-law David B. Rutherford and his granddaughter’s husband Mike McCombs.
Mr. Everson married his childhood neighbor, friend, and love of his life, Gladys, on May 19, 1952, and together celebrated life, sharing laughter and love with their extended families. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1951-1953 with the United States Army as a Corporal in the Quarter Master Training Command at Fort Lee, Virginia.
Mr. Everson was an employee of the Owens-Illinois Glass Company in Fairmont until its closure where he worked in the Shipping Department and was later employed at the Kitt Energy Mine in Philippi, WV. He was a member of the United Mine Workers.
He was active in church life as a longtime member of the Highland Avenue United Methodist Church, serving as usher, member of the United Methodist Men and volunteering his time in maintenance of the church building. With the church, he volunteered weekly at the Fairmont Soup Opera, and was also a member of the Bellview Lions Club. He was a proud resident of the Bellview Community, where in years past he provided upkeep for the Veteran’s Memorial and the Jones Cemetery. He could fix anything and performed numerous home repairs for neighbors. He grew large vegetable gardens and will be remembered for giving the produce he raised to family, friends and neighbors.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV 26554. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in the Highland Avenue United Methodist Church, 204 Highland Avenue, Fairmont, WV 26554 with Pastor Micah Blanks officiating.
