Obituary of Laura Lee King

Laura Lee King, age 85, of Poplar Island Road, Colfax, West Virginia passed away at United Hospital Center in Bridgeport, WV on Saturday, September 15th, 2018 finally joining her beloved husband, Charlie King.  

 

Laura was born on August 27, 1933 in Pleasant Valley, WV a daughter of the late Harry Hager & Estella Lee Dodd Hager.    

 

Laura married the love of her life, Charles Marion King in August of 1950.  The couple raised their five children in the city of Fairmont until they built and settled into their home on the Tygart River.  Laura was a devoted homemaker and loving mother who put her family first in everything that she did.

 

She was a Christian by faith.  She graduated from East Fairmont High School.  Her passion was quilting, stitching, creating beautiful art, clothing and costumes.  She was formerly employed by Jo Ann Fabric. 

 

She enjoyed collecting photos of her growing family, preserving family traditions, and never missing a reason to send a greeting card.  She tended to many animals over the years, grew vegetable gardens, and enjoyed tending to her African violets and plants.  She enjoyed vacationing in Disney World, Florida with her family many times over the years. 

 

Mrs. King is survived by a daughter and son in law Debra and Steve Davis of Fayette County, WV, four sons and four daughter in laws Bruce and Beverly King of North Carolina, David and Connie King of Fairmont, WV, Brian and Terry King of Poplar Island Community and Mark and Lori King of The Villages, FL.  The couple also raised granddaughters Heather Tipton and Sandi Scarpino.

 

Laura is also survived by her eight grandchildren Allen King and his wife Jamie,  Shawna Brown and her husband Bobby, Heather Tipton and her husband Eric,   Amber Camp and her husband Matthew, Sandi Scarpino, Andrew King, Adam King,  and Braden King.  She is survived by 18 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandson and 3 step grandchildren.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Marion County Humane Society, 2731 Locust Avenue, Fairmont, WV 26554 or to WVU Medicine Hospice, 327 Medical Park Drive, Bridgeport, WV 26330.

The family will receive friends at the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV 26554 Thursday, September 20, 2018 from 4-8 p.m. and Friday, September 21, 2018 from 10-Noon p.m.  The funeral service will be held in the funeral home Friday at 12:00 Noon with Pastor Bill Masters officiating.  The committal service will follow in the Pisgah Cemetery in Monongalia County, WV.  Online condolences may be made to the family at www.FORDFUNERALHOMES.com
