Obituary of Albert "Lee" Goudy

Albert “Lee” Goudy, 85, of Fairmont, WV, passed away April 17, 2016, at his home with his family at his side after a long battle with cancer. Lee was born April 15, 1931 in Proctor, WV the son of the late Clarence and Bessie Anderson Goudy. He was a veteran of the US Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1952. After returning home he attended welding school and was employed by the American Shipbuilding Co. at Lorain, OH. There he was tested to be a certified welder by the Department of the Navy and was a member of the Boilermakers Union. Lee was then employed for seven years at the former Ormet Corporation and was discharged because of his union activities and lost the case in arbitration. He wasd then employed by the United Steelworkers of America and was transferred to Fairmont, WV in 1972 where he was Sub-District Director over Area 4 at the time of his retirement in 1996. The above events of Lee’s life was told to me many times after Lee and I were married on January 1, 1980. Lee’s goal for each day was making someone smile. His favorite eating place was Sayboy’s Steak House Restaurant where he had many special friends including the owner Kenny Sabo with whom Lee spent many happy hours fishing below the Tygart River Dam in Grafton, WV and with a second friend Sander Jordon his former next door neighbor. Lee also enjoyed squirrel hunting with his neighbor Dan Roberts. He enjoyed watching WVU football, WVU basketball, Pittsburgh Steelers and visiting the Amish Country with his wife Betty. Lee accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior on December 6, 1987 and he and his wife were baptized in the church baptistery by Rev. Donald Thomas. On December 13, 1987, Lee and Betty were accepted members of Christ United Methodist in the presence of church members. Lee, then served as Worship Leader and was elected to the Finance Committee and later was Chairperson of the Administrative Board. On October 19, 2003, Lee and Betty started attending Levels United Methodist Church and later transferred their membership to the church. At Levels, he taught Bible Study, served as Worship Leader, and was on the Pastor Parrish Relation Committee. Lee was then elected a delegate to the West Virginia Annual Church Conference for seven years where he represented Levels United Methodist Church, Walnut Grove Unite Methodist Church and Colfax United Methodist Church. Lee and his wife Betty traveled each day from Fairmont, WV to Wesleyan College in Buckhannon, WV as did their Pastor, Jim Zinn. Lee is survived by the love of his life Betty Goudy whom he married on January 1, 1980. Betty will miss him dearly after 36 years of marriage. In 1996, they both retired and they had a very close relationship, where you saw one you saw both. They loved to drive out west, camp, eat out and do everything together. Lee is survived by two daughters and a son from a previous marriage, Donna D’Angelo and husband Paul of Aurora, OH, Billie Dillaman and husband Don of Paden City, WV and Jerry Goudy and wife Juany of Rockledge, FL. Seven grandchildren, Roger and wife Jacque Clegg, Alishia Quinn and husband Tim, Olivia Bartic and husband Matt, Allison D’Angelo, Paul D’Angelo, Jr., Michael Goudy, Anee Goudy; nine great grandchildren, Abby Clegg, Drew Clegg, Carter Clegg, Liza Clegg, Mea Bartic, Jude Bartic, Madison Varney, Tim Quinn, Ryan Quinn and a sister Thelma Riggs and husband George of Loveland, CO. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother at six months Carl Eugene Goudy, a sister Flossie Derby and a brother-in-law, Bob Derby. Lee leaves behind many friends and his dog, Toby. Lee has expressed many times to many people what good neighbors Dan and Debbie Roberts and Sander and Jessica Jordon were to him and Betty. Also special neighbors George and Agi Cavrich, Dawn Biafore, Jessup Biafore and Brett and Kelley Bernhart. Our family would like to extend our thanks to Amedysis for the loving care they gave Lee during the last weeks of his life. The family will receive friends at Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, WV 26554, on Thursday, April 21, 2016, from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Friday, April 22, 2016, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Their funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Friday, April 22, 2016, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jim Zinn officiating.
