Obituary of Warder "Woody" Ansley Shaver
Warder "Woody" Ansley Shaver, 85, passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2026, 2026.
Woody was the youngest son of the late Herb and Rose Shaver of Monumental. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Edith Cooper Shaver; his son, Jeffrey Don Shaver; his sister-in-law, Carolyn Shaver; and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Barbara and Dwayne Reynolds.
He is survived by his children, Bryan (Missy) Shaver, Jewell (Satish) Rajanala, and Kristin (Dall) Floyd; his brother, Charles Shaver of Milton; and his brother-in-law, Donald (Janie) Cooper of Mannington.
Woody was a proud grandfather to ten grandchildren: Daniel, Emma, Jacob, John, Nate, and Savanna Shaver; Grant and Ansley Rajanala; and Leigha and Christian Floyd. He was also blessed with a great-grandson, Eric Shaver.
After graduating from Barrackville High School in 1958, Woody served his country as a U.S. Army Specialist in Nuclear Weapons. Following his military service, he spent one year as a West Virginia State Trooper before earning a degree in Mining Engineering from West Virginia University. He then embarked on a distinguished career in the coal industry, ultimately retiring from Consol Coal Company in 1996.
Following retirement, Woody embraced his lifelong love of travel. An adventurous spirit, he visited all 50 states and explored 44 countries around the world. Woody was also a member of Fairmont Lodge No. 9 A.F. & A.M. and the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), finding in both a connection to enduring brotherhood, cherished traditions, and the legacy of those who came before him. From the coal mines of West Virginia to destinations around the globe, Woody lived a life defined by hard work, curiosity, and a deep appreciation for the people and places he encountered along the way. And loved spending time in the sunshine with friends in Pharr, Texas.
The family will receive friends at Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, WV 26554, on Saturday, August 8, 2026, from 12 noon until 3 p.m. The funeral service will take place in the funeral home at 3 p.m. with Pastor Cheryl George officiating. Interment will follow at Monumental Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Monumental Cemetery, 648 Monumental Road, Fairmont, WV 26559. Pallbearers are grandsons Daniel, Jacob, Nate, and John Shaver, Grant Rajanala, and Christian Floyd. Full military honors will be conducted by the Marion County Veteran’s Council.
