Obituary of Gregory Allen Simmons

Gregory Allen Simmons, 60, of Colfax, passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2026 at his residence. He was born March 17, 1966 in Niceville, FL, a son of the late Kermit H. and Mary L. Rumer Simmons. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Rebecca D. Lemley Simmons. Greg was a mechanic with Hawkins Exxon for over 16 years and occasionally bartended at the Bee Hive. Greg attended Fairmont Senior High School, but often skipped to hang out at East Fairmont High School with his friends. Greg enjoyed working on and riding his motorcycles and he was a great guitar player. Greg and his wife had many fur babies and fostered and rescued many others. In addition to his wife, Greg is survived by his three sisters, Sarah Simmons Tennant of Fairmont, Ruth Simmons Moore and her husband Gary of Cape Coral, FL, and Judy Simmons Riley and her husband Gary of Jane Lew, WV, as well as many nieces and nephews and his close friend, Nino Mancino. Greg was preceded in death by his good friend, David B. “Krud” Kirkpatrick. Memorial donations may be made to Davis Crew Kitten Rescue, thedaviscrewkittens@tdck.org. The family has entrusted the arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV 26554. Friends and family may visit on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 from 2PM until 8PM and on Thursday, July 2, 2026 from 10AM until 11AM. The funeral will be held in the funeral home on Thursday at 11AM with the Reverend Bill Toothman officiating. In accordance with his wishes, cremation services will be held following the funeral.
