Obituary of Ellen Kay Bartlett

Ellen Kay Bartlett, 87, passed away on Monday, June 22, 2026 at the Conchettas Home Care Suites in Fairmont. She was born November 28, 1938 in Fairview, WV a daughter of the late Ray and Mabel Broadwater Tuttle. She was preceded in death by her husband, Murray “Brooks” Bartlett. Ellen Kay Bartlett will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family. She was a strong-willed yet deeply nurturing woman who dedicated her life to caring for those she loved most. Ellen found her greatest joy in being surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren, who were truly the highlight of her days. She eagerly awaited their visits and cherished every moment spent together. Ellen lived her entire life in West Virginia, where she built a home filled with warmth, comfort, and love. Her home and yard were her pride and joy, and a reflection of the care she poured into everything she did. She could often be found sitting on her front porch swing in the evenings, enjoying the quiet beauty around her, or swimming in her backyard pool during the summer months. She even took pride in mowing her own lawn, always keeping her space just the way she liked it. Ellen worked outside the home, having worked with Westinghouse Lighting, Hills Department Store, and Warehouse Grocery through her career. She had a passion for the simple joys of life. Ellen was an avid reader and a devoted gardener who especially loved tending to her vegetable garden. She took great pride in preserving her harvest, making her own canned vegetables, strawberry jam, and raspberry jelly—favorites among her family. In the kitchen, she was known for her delicious baking, especially her pies, cakes, cookies, and her beloved nut rolls, which brought comfort and joy to those lucky enough to share them. Ellen’s days often began with a simple, comforting routine of coffee and cookies in the morning. She had a way of making even the smallest moments feel special. She also had a phrase she shared often with those she loved: “I love you a bushel and a peck,” a reflection of her endless affection and warmth. She was a devoted mother to her children, Kathy Bartlett, Douglas Bartlett (Donna), and Cynthia (Bartlett) Bly, and a proud grandmother to Skylar, Keegan, Kimberly, Bret, Abigail, and Samuel, as well as a great-grandmother to Bentley and George. She was preceded in death by her husband, Murray Brooks, and her beloved dog, Buster. Ellen created a lifetime of cherished memories with her family, from everyday moments at home to special times like swimming in the ocean and collecting seashells along the beach with her grandchildren, memories that will be treasured forever.
