Obituary of Irene A. Walker

Irene A. Walker, 82, of Elyria, OH, formerly of Mannington, WV, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at the UH Elyria Medical Center in Elyria, OH. She was born on April 29, 1944 in Kingwood, WV, the daughter of the late George R. and Bessie V. Everly DeWitt. Irene was preceded in death by her beloved husband in January of 2010, William R. Walker. Irene loved nature, as she enjoyed growing flowers, walking, and visiting parks. She was a talented cook, and enjoyed watching court television programs. Her greatest enjoyment was spending precious time with her children and grandchildren, whom she adored. Irene is survived by her sons, Paul and William Walker, both of Elyria, OH, daughter, Penny Sheeler of Grant Town, WV, grandchildren, Amber Sheeler of Shinnston, WV, and Vincent Sheeler of Bridgeport, WV, great grandchildren, Alexander LeMasters of Grant Town, WV, and Landon and Jacob Smith, both of Bridgeport, WV, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Irene was preceded in death by her siblings, George DeWitt, Jr., Franklin DeWitt, Larry “Butch” DeWitt, Roger “Rick” DeWitt, Madeline DeWitt Kisner, Gladys DeWitt Heflin, Virginia DeWitt, Cherokee DeWitt Sizemore/Hufnagel, and Patty DeWitt. Memorial contributions may be made in Irene’s memory to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741. The family has entrusted the arrangements to the Ford Funeral Home, DeGarmo Chapel, 207 Second Street, Rivesville, WV 26588. A graveside service will be held in Arnettsville Cemetery, Arnettsville, WV on Monday, June 22, 2026 at 10 am with Pastor Bill Toothman officiating.
