Obituary of John Martin Dolog
John Martin Dolog, 64, of Rivesville, WV, passed away at his residence on Thursday May 28, 2026. He was born on December 23, 1961, in Fairmont, WV, the son of the late Paul and Josephine (Hall) Dolog.
He was a proud graduate of Rivesville High School, class of 1980. He continued his education at the West Virginia Correctional Academy, where he graduated as Valedictorian in 1988. He then went on to the West Virginia State Police Academy where he also graduated as valedictorian in 1989.
His career in law enforcement began in 1986 with the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, where he served as a jailer before becoming a deputy and advancing through the ranks. During those years, John also co-owned and operated Rivesville Garage alongside his brother, Herb Dolog. In June 1998, he joined the Town of Rivesville Police Department as a part-time officer, and on July 1, 2000, he proudly became Chief of Police. John was awarded the inaugural “Meritorious Service Award” in 1994 and 1996.
After his career in law enforcement, he owned and operated Po-Dawgs Pub in Rivesville, WV with his wife, Linda. He also worked as a Monongalia County bus driver for several years until his health no longer allowed him to.
In his younger years, John enjoyed hunting and fishing. He had a vibrant personality—he loved to sing and dance and was often the loudest voice in any room, bringing laughter and energy wherever he went. Above all, he deeply loved his children and took great pride in each of them and their accomplishments. Known affectionately as a “gentle giant,” John will be remembered for his big heart, strong presence, and unwavering love for his family and friends. John’s legacy of service, dedication and perseverance will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
John is survived by his loving wife, Linda (Stemple) Dolog; his children, John Dolog Jr and wife Amber, Desiree Dolog, Ashley Dolog and fiancé Zachary Price; and his cherished grandson, Luka Dolog-Price, whom he loved immensely.
