Obituary of Howard E. "Eddie" Ash

Howard E. “Eddie” Ash, 64, of Baxter, WV, passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2026 at the Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV. He was born on May 16, 1962 in Baxter, the son of the late Frederick A. Ash, Sr. and Matilda J. Carpenter Ash. Eddie served as a fire fighter at the Baxter Fire Department for over 40 + years. He enjoyed the outdoors, walking, watching the local news, bowling, and playing bingo and poker with his friends. Eddie is survived by his sister, Doris Merrill of Fairmont, as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. In addition to his parents, Eddie was preceded in death by his siblings, Frederick “Junior” and Jimmy Ash, Betty Gorbey, Mildred Dusky, and Mary Ann Haught. The family has entrusted the arrangements to the Ford Funeral Home, DeGarmo Chapel, 207 Second Street, Rivesville, WV 26588. Friends will be received on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 from 2pm until 8pm and again on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 from 11am until 1pm. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday at 1pm with Pastor Bill Toothman officiating. A service of committal will follow in the McCurdysville Cemetery, McCurdysville, WV.
