Obituary of David Roy Wood
David Roy Wood, 69, of Fairmont, West Virginia, took his final bow on the evening of May 18, 2026 surrounded by his family. Born February 2, 1957, David spent his life balancing faith, family, music, and a career that probably taught him how to spot nonsense from a mile away.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Lorraine Wood and Norma June Wood (VanPelt).
David leaves behind the love of his life, Robin Wood, who stood by him through every chapter of life’s adventure. He is also survived by his daughter, Chasity June Moore and her husband Sean; his son, Brandon Paul Wood and his wife Anna; and his beloved grandchildren, Penelope Honor and Graham Thomas Paul Wood, who could get him smiling faster than just about anything else. They brought him tremendous joy and pride.
David proudly served many years with the FBI before retirement, building lifelong friendships and collecting enough stories to keep people entertained for hours — though he may not have been at liberty to disclose all the details. He carried a strong work ethic and quiet integrity throughout his life, and he was respected by friends and colleagues alike. He took pride in his team and caring for them like family.
A devoted Christian, David lived his faith quietly but faithfully. When he wasn’t working or spending time with family, chances were good a bass guitar was nearby. David was an exceptionally talented musician who loved to play. Throughout the years he was in bands like Bad Axe, Pegasus, Brandon Wood and the Associates, and volunteered his talents at his church.
David had a sharp sense of humor, a deep love for his family, and a knack for making ordinary moments memorable with a joke or a story. He was proud of the life he and Robin built together and never missed a chance to brag about his children and grandchildren — usually with good reason.
He will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and almost certainly greeted in Heaven with, “We’ve been waiting for you!”
