Obituary of Sophia Elizabeth Troy

Sophia Elizabeth Troy, 89, of Fairmont, WV passed away on Friday, May 15, 2026 at Harmony at White Oaks in Bridgeport, WV. She was born February 3, 1937 in Hundred, WV a daughter of the late Nathan Goff and Margaret Mae Stoneking Hostutler. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Ray Troy on April 3, 2018. Sophia was a Methodist by faith. She and her husband spent most of their working career in Bedford, Ohio. After retirement, they moved to Fairmont to be near their grandchildren in their formative years, and living just one street away. Sophia was an excellent cook and baker. She made the best pies and caramels. She showed her love by feeding her family and friends. Sophia is survived by her daughter, Donna and her husband Gary Boyles of Pleasant Valley, her grandchildren: Jeff and his wife Danielle Boyles of Fairmont, and Andrew Boyles of Charleston, WV, her great-grandchildren: Jullian, Hudson, and Parker Boyles, as well as several nieces and nephews. Sophia’s death is the end of the Hostutler generation. She was the last living member of her immediate family. In addition to her husband, Sophia was preceded in death by her infant daughter, and her siblings: Edward Lee Hostutler, Bert Hostutler, James Hostutler, Mancel and his wife Bonnie Hostutler, Ola and her husband Woodrow Powell and Lucille and her husband Tom Faulkner. The family would like to thank the staff of Harmony at White Oaks, as well as Amedisys Hospice for the compassion and concern provided to Sophia while in their care. The family has entrusted the arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont. Friends and family are invited to visit on Monday, May 18, 2026 from 4PM until 8PM, and on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 from 10AM until 11AM. The funeral will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at 11 AM with Father Dean Lawrence officiating. Interment will follow at the Cunningham Memorial Gardens, Burton, WV.
