Obituary of Peggy Lou (Pickens) Nuzum
Peggy Lou (Pickens) Nuzum, 79, of Fairmont, peacefully passed away at United Hospital Center on Monday, May 11, 2026. She was born on September 8, 1946, a daughter to the late Robert H. and Geraldine Boyles Pickens. Peggy is survived by her loving husband of nearly 60 years, John Edward Nuzum, Jr.
In addition to her husband, Peggy is survived by her children, Shannon Riggs and her husband Rick of Fairmont, and Shawn Nuzum and his wife Brenda of Fairmont. Peggy is also survived by her grandchildren, Kaylea Streyle and her husband Jakob of Fairmont, Delaney Roebuck and her husband Shane of Indiana, and Macey Nuzum of Nutter Fort, her great-grandchildren, Krue, Emersyn, and Birdie Streyle, and Stevie Jean Roebuck. Her twin sister, Patti Wise and her husband David of Fairmont.
In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her brother Robert Pickens and her sister, Bobetta Smith.
Peggy was a 1964 graduate of East Fairmont High School and was a longtime, active member of Fairmont Free Methodist Church where she volunteered much of her time as a Sunday school teacher as well as a vacation bible school teacher. She was known to have a green thumb and took great pride in her home and family. Peggy always opened her home to her children’s friends with open arms. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the center of her world.
The family has requested memorial donations to be made St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV 26554. Family and friends will be received in the funeral home on Friday, May 15, 2026 from 10a.m. until 1p.m. A funeral service will be held for Peggy on Friday at 1p.m. with Pastor Zachery DeLeurere, and Pastor Carl Radcliff officiating.
