Obituary of Lawrence "Larry" Mendicino
Lawrence “Larry” Mendicino, 88, of Center Court, Bridgeport, WV, passed away on Monday, April 6, 2026 at the United Hospital Center in Bridgeport. He was born on February 5, 1938 in New Eagle, PA, the son of the late Michael Mendicino Sr. and Julia DeMaio Mendicino.
Larry is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Barbara L. Hershman Mendicino, whom he married on July 19, 1969 at the St. Ann’s Church in Shinnston.
He was a 1956 graduate of Elizabeth-Forward High School in Elizabeth, PA, and graduated from Duquesne University with a B.S. Business Administration in 1960. After graduation, he joined the United States Navy and served out of Norfolk, VA. After his time serving his country, Larry moved to Clarksburg, WV and was employed with Continental Can Company/Brockway Glass Company from 1963 until 1979. In 1979, he gained employment with Stanley Furniture Company in Bassett, VA as an Information Systems Manager. Larry and Barbara lived in Collinsville, VA for 28 years. Upon retiring in 2000, they moved back to Bridgeport, WV to be near family. He was also a faithful member of All Saints Catholic Church in Bridgeport.
In his spare time, Larry was an avid reader and historian, as he greatly enjoyed studying various military battles throughout time. Larry was also a Pittsburgh Steelers fan, believing that “if the Steelers weren’t playing, there wasn’t a game”. He found his greatest enjoyment in spending time with his friends and family.
In addition to his wife, Larry is survived by his brother Michael (Toni) Mendicino, sister, Donna Marie (John) Brenzia, God-son and nephew, Matthew (Renee) Mendicino, niece, Lindsay (Tom) Komlanc, sisters-in-law, Margaret Ann Stalnaker (Wayne) Kellar, Veronica Kay Southern, Evelyn (Jerry) Hosaflook, Kathy (David) Hosaflook, and Pamela Jill Carter. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, as well as great-great nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly.
In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, William “Bill” D. Stalnaker, Daniel K. Southern, sister-in-law, Joelle Mendicino, In-laws, Vernon and Beryl Hershman, and great nephew, Bradley Fortney II.

The family has entrusted the arrangements to the Ford Funeral Home, Allen Chapel, 215 East Main Street, Bridgeport. Friends will be received at the All Saints Catholic Church, 317 East Main Street, Bridgeport, WV 26330 on Thursday, April 9, 2026 from 11:30 am until 1 pm. The Catholic Funeral Liturgy will be held in the church on Thursday at 1 pm with Reverend Father Walter Jagela as celebrant. A service of committal will follow at the Shinnston Memorial Cemetery in Shinnston, WV, where full military honors will be rendered by the Harrison County Honor Guard.
