Obituary of Frank McArthur Smith

Frank McArthur Smith, 81, of Rivesville, passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2026 at Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born on February 15, 1944, a son to the late Granville M. and Olive E. Gill Smith. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Vera Mae Smith. In addition to his wife, Frank is survived by his son, Roy Jaworski and his wife Michelle of Rivesville, his grandsons, David and Ryan Jaworski of Rivesville, and his brother Charles Smith and his wife Diane of Farmington. In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his brothers, Lee Smith and Otis Smith, and his sisters, Pearl Yost, Annie Musgrave, Ethel Robison, and June Kovack. Frank was a retired Motor Repairman at Soles Electric Company and proudly served his country as a United States Marine in the Vietnam War where he was awarded the Bronze Star along with the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnamese Campaign Medal, the Vietnamese Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Navy Unit Commendation Medal, and the Presidential Unit Citation Medal. He loved spending his Saturday nights drag racing at Eldora Drag Strip, working on engines, and tinkering in the garage. He also cherished spending time with his grandsons at his camp at Big Bear Lake. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ford Funeral Home, DeGarmo Chapel, 207 Second Street, Rivesville, WV 26588. Friends will be received in the funeral home on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 from 5p.m. until 8p.m., and again on Wednesday, January 7, 2026 from 12 noon until 1p.m. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday at 1p.m. with Reverend Jim Zinn as celebrant. Following the funeral service, a graveside service of committal will be held at Arnettsville Cemetery with full military rights in honor of Frank’s dedicated service in the United States Marine Corps.
