Obituary of James DuVal Doyle, Sr.
James DuVal Doyle, Sr., 85, of Barrackville, WV, ended his joyful, earthly odyssey on November 15, 2025, and has been rewarded with a heavenly rest. Jim, who passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side, was born on June 14, 1940, in Norfolk, VA, to Harry and Mable Doyle.
Jim is survived by his high school sweetheart, Mary Doyle, and his family which he believed to be his greatest achievement. His children include Susan Doyle Harper of Fairmont, WV; Jim Doyle and his wife Imelda Cala “Aimee” of Ashburn, VA; and Glen Doyle and his wife Sandy of Shinnston, WV. His grandchildren include Emily Harper of Lakewood, CO; James Harper of Fairmont, WV; Sean Doyle and his wife Jordan of Bridgeport, WV; and Caitlin Doyle Kimbrew and her husband Kolbe of Fairmont, WV. Jim is also survived by his brothers Harry Doyle Jr. and his wife Jackie of Mathews, VA, and Ron Doyle and his wife Robin of Haines City, FL, as well as cherished nieces and nephews.
Jim is a proud graduate of Maury High School in Norfolk, VA, and the Norfolk Division of the College of William & Mary earning a BS in Secondary Education.
His earthly adventures began as a public-school teacher at the Azalea Gardens Junior High School in Norfolk, VA, from 1962-1964. Recruited to become a Federal Agent with the Naval Criminal Investigative Services (NCIS), formerly the Office of Naval Intelligence, Jim served NCIS and the Defense Investigative Service from 1964-1990. Being too young to completely retire, he was the Parking Manager at WVU in Morgantown, WV, from 1990-1992 before becoming the Security Manager at NASA in Fairmont, WV. He expanded his services to include the WV High Technology Consortium Foundation until 1998 at which time he became the Security Manager at Lockheed Martin, also in Fairmont, WV. Jim retired for good in April 2011 and enjoyed a much-needed rest.
Jim loved his country and his community. He served in the US Coast Guard Reserve for 7 years, US Army Reserve for 3 years, Barrackville Town Council for 38 years, mayor for four terms, and municipal judge for 20 years. He was a member of the Barrackville United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school and enjoyed his choir membership.
Music was Jim's special joy and often sung at weddings, funerals, and other memorable events. Jim performed in musicals at Fairmont State University and was the original David Morgan in the Prickett's Fort: An American Frontier Musical for seven summers.
Despite years of health issues, Jim consistently shared a smile and a joke with others. That smile will forever be missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jim's memory to the Barrackville United Methodist Church at PO Box 186, Barrackville, WV, 26559.
