Obituary of Eddie Arnold Hudson
Eddie Arnold Hudson, 77, of Fairmont, passed away peacefully at home, in his favorite spot, surrounded by his loving family and the things he cherished most, on November 10, 2025.
Born on March 10, 1948, to the late Donald Ray Hudson and Elizabeth Rebecca Anderson Hudson, Eddie was one of a kind — strong-willed, quick-witted, and full of character. He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, where he served as a Sergeant and dog handler with the Military Police during the Vietnam War. His service reflected not only his deep sense of duty but also his lifelong love of dogs and his unshakable pride in his country.
Eddie was a collector of many things — from hats and military memorabilia to stories and laughter that filled every room he entered. He had an entrepreneurial spirit and owned his own janitorial service before spending many dedicated years working for the Marion County Board of Education, where he later retired.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Valentine Hudson. Together they built a home filled with humor, patience, and love. Eddie was a proud father to Derek Hudson (Heather), Travis Hudson (Heather), and Nikki Robinson (Vader), and Poppy to five grandchildren — Drew, Christyana, Faith, Makenna, and Jovie — who were the joy of his life. He is also survived by his sister, Donna Cole (Wayne), several brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends, and his loyal lap dog and constant comfort buddy, Bingo, who rarely left his side.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Caris, Johnny, Larry, and Gary Hudson; and his infant sister, Linda.
Eddie had a sharp wit and a big heart. He loved music — from The Beatles to Frank Sinatra, bluegrass, and the blues — and always had a tune for every mood. His sense of humor, strength, and stubborn determination left an unforgettable mark on everyone who knew him. His life was one of faith, love, and family — a story that will continue to inspire those who had the blessing of knowing him.
The family would like to send a special thanks to his home health nurses from the VA, Amedisys, and Hospice.
