Obituary of Amelia "Mia" Ruth Markley

Our sweet Mia took her last breath wrapped in the arms of those who loved her most. Mia has been a fighter since day one and stayed that way until the very end when it was time for her to rest. She taught everyone around her what true resilience looks like. She packed more love, laughter, and determination into her ten years than most do in a lifetime. She is the daughter of Kelly & Jason Carey and Jessica & Brian Markley. She was the fiercely loved sister of Ollie, Kayla, Landon, Abby, and Peyton . The granddaughter of Robert & Kathy Baker, Patricia & Scott Carey, Theresa Markley, and John Yokum. Mia also leaves behind a big extended family & friends who will miss her deeply. Mia is preceded in death by her sister, baby AJ; her Grandma Nah- Renee Simpson Yokum; and Pap Jim Markley. Mia loved spending time with her best friends Peyton & Ollie, trolls, rain drops on her face, baths, dancing, listening to people get in trouble, being the “school princess”, and joining daddy on the job-site and mom in the office. Mia thoroughly enjoyed causing a little mischief, pulling her tube, and laughing at the chaos she created. There are so many things that could be said about Mia but most of all she was love and pure joy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Mia's memory to WVU Children's PICU, 1 Medical Center Dr., Morgantown, WV 26506. A celebration of Mia’s life will be held at Ford Funeral home, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, WV 26554 on Monday, October 27,2025 from 1pm- 7pm with service at 7pm. The family invites everyone who knew her to come share stories, smiles, and memories just the way Mia would have wanted.
