Janet Heston

Obituary of Janet Marie Heston

Janet Marie Heston, 67, of Fairmont, West Virginia, passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord on October 10, 2025, at her home, following a courageous multi-year battle with breast cancer. Born on May 29, 1958, in Fairmont, Janet was the beloved daughter of the late Paul Junior Heston and Glenda Mae Phillips Laska. A proud graduate of East Fairmont High School, Class of 1976, Janet pursued her lifelong passion for beauty as a cosmetologist. Her artistry and warmth brought joy to countless clients over the years, and while she wore many hats throughout her life, it was in the salon where her heart truly shined. Janet’s greatest joy came from her family. She cherished every moment spent with her children and embraced the role of “Grammy” with love and delight, especially in the presence of her toddler grandson, Jackson. Her home was filled with laughter, music, and the loyal companionship of her beloved dogs, Berkeley and Buddy. A woman of faith, Janet lived her life with an unwavering belief in God. She loved music - her favorite songs were always playing in the background, and she never missed a chance to share a laugh. A devoted fan of the West Virginia Mountaineers, she fondly recalled attending football games with her father—memories she held close to her heart. Janet is survived by her loving children: son Zachary White (Tina) and daughter Chelsea Wendt (Kevin), both of Berkeley Springs, WV; her cherished grandson, Jackson; her stepfather, Lewis “Alex” Laska of Fairmont, WV; sister, Nora Heston (companion Bob Bagby) of Raleigh, NC; and sister-in-law, Dr. Lisa Haddox-Heston of Logan, WV. She also leaves behind her faithful dog, Buddy. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Gloria Schultz of Sheffield Lake, OH, and her brother Criss Heston of Logan, WV. Her golden retriever, Berkeley, who brought her immeasurable joy, now waits for her at the rainbow bridge. The family has entrusted arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 PM. A private interment will take place at Mount Zion Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Marion County Senior Services Meals on Wheels program, honoring Janet’s spirit.
