Obituary of Shirley Jean (Robbins) Stephen
Shirley Jean (Robbins) Stephen, 81, of Fairmont, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 6, 2025. She was born on August 22, 1944, a daughter to the late Ray Russell and Lucille Menear Robbins. In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death in 2014 by her beloved husband, Ronald Lee Stephen. Shirley is also preceded in death by her brother Gary Robbins, and her sister Mary Ann Poole.
She is survived by her daughters, Dawn King and her husband Heath of Fairmont, and Caprice Doty and her husband Tom of Idamay, her grandchildren, Alexander Doty, Timothy Doty, Tanner King, and Bailey King. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren, and her brothers William Robbins and his wife Lucille, and James Robbins of Fairmont.
Shirley retired as a Dietary Technician for Wishing Well Manor in Fairmont. She was a graduate of East Fairmont High School, worked for Hills Department Store, attended EMT School, and worked for the Marion County Rescue Squad for several Years. She was well known for being a school crossing guard for many years and brought joy to the lives of everyone around her. Shirley loved to go to restaurants with friends and family, shopping, cooking, reading and relaxing on her front porch. Shirley never met a stranger and genuinely loved people. She also enjoyed the music of Garth Brooks and Kenny Rogers, as well as traveling with her husband.
The family has requested memorial donations be made in Shirley’s name to the Marion County Humane Society at 2731 Locust Ave, Fairmont, WV 26554.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV 26554. In accordance with Shirley’s wishes, cremations services will occur. A graveside service of committal will be held at the West Virginia National Cemetery in Grafton on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at 11a.m. with Evangelist Clinton Rowand as Celebrant.
