Obituary of David Allen Glendenning

David “Dave” Allen Glendenning, 81, of Kingmont, passed away on Friday, September 26, 2025 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. He was born January 24, 1944 in Fairmont, WV a son of the late Leslie Joseph and Theadora Anne Davis Glendenning. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Cynthia M. Speelman Glendenning. Dave was a Catholic by faith. He was a graduate of St. Peter’s Catholic High School in Fairmont and later of Fairmont State College where he earned his engineering degree. Dave was a Veteran with the United States Navy having served in the South Pacific during the Vietnam War. Dave worked in construction his entire career, both commercial builds as well as residential. He worked with Melon-Stuart Company, Bunner Construction, Brekenridge Corporation, Brother’s Corporation which he owned and operated, Lee Reiger Builds, and AAMC. In his earlier years, Dave was an avid skier, including barefoot skiing, and enjoyed boating. He loved going to his camp in Boaz, WV on the Ohio River. Dave was a founding member and the drummer of the “The Royals” band where he affectionately was known at “Rabbit”. He loved attending his Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity reunions and the annual picnic. He enjoyed the Steelers, Pirates, and WVU football and basketball. In addition to his wife, Dave is survived by his adopted son, Craig Glendenning of Fairmont, his sister, Susan and her husband Robert Ware of French Creek, WV, a sister-in-law, Glenda Glendenning of Kansas, as well as his nieces and nephews: Aimie (Aaron) Jones of Bridgeport, Justin (Crystal) Ice of Jane Lew, Jeremy (Susan) Ice of South Carolina, Leanne (Doug) Fansler of Fairmont, and Kristy Romino of Fairmont. He was preceded in death by his brother, Michael L. Glendenning and his nephew Steven Glendenning. Memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior’s Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516. The family has entrusted the arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont. Friends and family may visit on Thursday, October 2, 2025 from 2PM until 4PM and 6PM until 8PM, and on Friday, October 3, 2025 from 10AM until 11AM. The funeral will be held in the funeral home on Friday, at 11AM with Mr. George Stewart and Mr. Bob Schmidt officiating.
