Obituary of George Edward Frowen
George Edward Frowen, 82, of Fairmont, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 29, 2025 at the Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV. He was born on April 26, 1943 in Fairmont, the son of the late George T. and Martha B. Liston Frowen. George is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Sandra K. “Siburt” Frowen.
George was a 1961 graduate of Fairmont Senior High School, attended Fairmont State College, and then WV Business College where he met his lovely wife. He proudly served in the United States Air Force as an Admin Specialist from 1964 until 1968, where he was stationed in Montgomery, Alabama, and toured in the Vietnam War. He was affiliated with the Central Christian Disciples of Christ Church in Fairmont. George retired in 2019 from Novelis, formerly Alcan Aluminum, where he worked in the Finishing Department for over 48 years, as a Machine and Slitter Operator.
George was raised in the Bellview Community and went to Barnes School where he developed several close friendships that he has maintained to this day with his neighborhood buddies. George excelled in baseball and was a member of the baseball teams of Fairmont Senior, American Legion Post #17, Pony League, Fairmont State College, the Little League All-Star Team, and the semi-pro baseball WV league with Nick Saban Sr. as his coach and a young Nick Saban as his bat boy. He was offered a position with the Pittsburgh Pirates Minor League Team. He later continued on in softball, playing for R&W Cable, Alcan Aluminum, and the Air Force Team.
George was super competitive, and whatever he did, he did it well. He loved golfing with each of his family members at White Day and Tygart Lake. He also enjoyed fishing with his grandsons and watching them participate in EFHS band and tennis teams, as well as church basketball. He was an amazing joke teller and could really spin a story. George loved sitting on his porch everyday with his Jack Russell Terrior “Angel”, feeding his deer and his birds.
In addition to his wife, George is survived by his daughter, Lorenda L. Schwartz and her husband Jonathan of Fairmont, grandsons, William H. and Andrew T. Schwartz, sister, Margaret A. Dumire and her husband Steve of Fairmont, brother-in-law, Larry Danley and his wife Melissa of Marietta, OH, as well as his nieces and nephews, Zachary Dumire, Mariah Dorfner, Chris Danley, Aaron Danley, and Shelly Danley.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by two infant sons, Chad E. Frowen and James T. Frowen, maternal grandparents, Ben and Georgia Liston, paternal grandparents, Chauncey and Georgia Frowen, and his nephew, Ryan Danley.
