Obituary of Maria Rosa (Gomez) Sastram

Maria Rosa Gomez Sastram, 59, of Shinnston, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, July 23, 2025. She was born on September 21, 1965 in Bridgeport, Connecticut, the daughter of Lydia E. Ruiz Gomez and the late Cirilo Gomez. Maria was preceded in death by her beloved husband in 2009, Thomas D. Sastram, Sr. Maria was a graduate of Central High School in Bridgeport, Connecticut. She proudly served as a caretaker to many throughout her lifetime. She enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and spending precious time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren. In addition to her mother, Maria is survived by her loving son, Thomas D. Sastram, Jr. and his wife Velvet of Shinnston, two grandchildren, Thomas and Zoey, brother Skirmantez Gomez and his wife Maribel of Bridgeport, Connecticut, and sisters, Branda Wiggins and her husband Will of Bridgeport, Connecticut, and Balerie Jefferson and her husband Mike of Stratford, Connecticut, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her father and husband, Maria was preceded in death by her brother, Leonardo “Manny” Mielez, Jr., and sister Bradden Gomez. Maria was known to serve others. As a result, in Maria’s memory the family requests that you help a person in need, without taking any credit. As Maria was known to say, “Keep it moving Sunshine”. The family has entrusted the arrangements to the Ford Funeral Home, Allen Chapel, 215 East Main Street, Bridgeport. In accordance with Maria’s wishes, cremation services will occur.
