Obituary of Betty Loraine Nicholson (Gibson) Wilson

Betty Loraine Nicholson (Gibson) Wilson, 96, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on July 17, 2025. She was born on December 14, 1928, in Fairmont, WV, the daughter of the late Harry Blaine Nicholson and Luverna (Gump) Nicholson. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Wilford Ray "Will" Wilson; her son, Larry "Hoot" Gibson; two sisters, Darlene Nicholson and Barbara (David) McCoy; her brother, Paul Nicholson; and her granddaughter, Ashley (Gibson) Anderson. A graduate of Barrackville High School, Class of 1947, Betty held a variety of jobs throughout her life, with her longest tenure at the A&P Warehouse in Fairmont until 1968. She was a devoted and lifelong member of Barrackville United Methodist Church, becoming its longest-serving member following the passing of her beloved sister, Darlene. Betty had a deep love for the simple joys of life. She cherished her time on the porch, overlooking the farm and keeping a watchful eye on the cows. She is survived by her daughter, Linda, and her husband James "Bill" Pratt of Fairmont, WV; four granddaughters: Melissa (Scott) Yancheski of Fairmont, WV, Cheri Pratt of North Carolina Sally (Mat) Robinson of Ohio, and Casey (Jack) Wolfe of Fairmont, WV. Betty was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren: Brittany Kerns, Amanda Reynolds, Sydney Yancheski, Paige and Hannah Robinson, and Sylas and Slade Wolfe; and two great-great-grandsons, Tug and Mako Kerns. She is also survived by a niece, Letha (Ben) McCoy, and a nephew, David (Kathy) McCoy. The family would like to extend a special thank you to WVU Hospice and especially Alicia Austin for her compassion and care given to Betty. Arrangements have been entrusted to Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV 26554. A private ceremony was held by the family to honor Betty’s life.
