Obituary of Jack Clair Hawkins, Sr.
Jack Clair Hawkins, Sr., 92, of Barrackville, peacefully passed away on Monday, July 14, 2025. He was born on December 17, 1932, the son to the late Jesse Burl and Hazel Marie West Hawkins. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife in 1985, Cecelia Jo Composky Hawkins.
He is survived by his son, Jack Hawkins Jr. and his wife Yvonne of Monumental, his daughters, Debbie Tallarico and her husband Anthony of Fairmont, Tara Wilson and her husband Kevin of Monumental, Rebecca Opron and her husband Mike of Farmington, and Tonya Hayes and her husband Jamie of Elkins. Jack is also survived by his grandchildren, Toni Jo Hayhurst and her husband Dave, J.P. Hawkins and his wife Kendell, Cecelia Davis and her husband Josh, Preston Wilson and his wife Kelsi, Cameron Wilson and his wife Sarah, Michael Opron and his fiancé Brooke, and Cody Opron and his wife Marina, along with 14 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Jack was preceded in death by his sisters and their husband’s, Rosie and Buck Satterfield, Donna and Gene Martin, and Skeet and Bill Wise.
Jack was a 1951 graduate of Barrackville High School and went on to Join the United States Air Force. He was a Christian by faith and more recently attended Barrackville Church of Christ. In his earlier days, Jack used to help his father run Hawkins Aluminum. He retired from North American Philips – Westing House where he served in Maintenance for many years. He had a love for America’s favorite pastime. He even played baseball for the United States Air Force and was drafted by the Detroit Tigers. Later in life, he went on to coach Pony League baseball for many years. Most of all, Jack loved to be around his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV 26554. Family and friends will be received in the funeral home on Saturday, July 19, 2025 from 11a.m. until 3p.m. A funeral service will be held for Jack in the funeral home on Saturday at 3p.m. with Kevin Wilson officiating.
