When we hear the name D.D. Meaghan, the first thing that comes to mind is the hymn “We Sing A Song of the Saints of God” because that’s what D.D. was. And is.
D.D. always gave generously of himself in whatever endeavor he undertook, but he seemed especially drawn to work with college students and other young adults.
It may seem hyperbole to say D.D. saved the Presbyterian Student Fellowship at West Virginia University, but it is most assuredly true.
For about 18 months, D.D. stepped in and served as campus pastor, in many ways reinvigorating the program and bridging a gap in leadership during the search for a permanent campus minister.
Because of his efforts, when the permanent pastor arrived, he found a faithful if small group upon which to build. For D.D., it was never about numbers; it was always about caring and helping.
Rest in peace, good friend.

I met the Reverend Meighen when he was interim Presbyterian campus pastor for Westminster Foundation of WV, WVU campus, 2022 to 2023. His energy, enthusiasm, and optimism were contagious and uplifting. He met each day with a smile and a plan for the students. I was blessed to accompany him to a visit to The Shack Neighborhood house, where we presented to the children in the summer reading program. He arranged for the Presbyterian Fellowship students to learn of the work of Presbyterian missionaries in the 1930's coal town of Osage and in the model community of Arthurdale; I was invited to go along and learned that this minister never met a stranger.
D.D. stayed interested in what was happening with campus ministry in West Virginia after his interim service and I enjoyed several phone calls from him to discuss all of the goings on in Morgantown and Fairmont. His life experience and ability to see the wider picture gave him valuable insight into situations which he graciously shared.
I will miss Reverend D.D. and am comforted to know that he has been called home, although the good Lord is going to have to find something for him to do.

DD took me and my siblings under his wing as a child after my father died back in 1958, he put me on the Union Mission basketball team, I went to Church camp, Bible School and many more activities under his guidance. This kept me off the streets and put my life in a better direction and he did the same for many youths in Fairmont area. I am truely grateful for my time with him.

Even though our paths have not crossed in several years, I have always considered D.D. To be a great friend and a great inspiration for me. We spent much time together when I pastored the Meadowdale charge in 1982. I have great memories of when we would get together in your backyard and our kids would play together. D.D. Has made this world a better place and will be greatly missed.

D.D. Played a big part of my personal growth in the early 1970’s. Facing incarceration for an entrapped bogus criminal charge my Mother, D.D. and I came up with a plan to avoid a felonious trial. We convinced the Court that I could do something positive for Marion County instead of facing a jail term. We started one of the first Community Service programs in the Marion County Court system. I did “man on the street” radio interviews for one of D.D.’s local radio shows. And with our mutual love of music we also reviewed current music albums for the show as well. Our relationship played a big part of my early adulthood life. God bless D.D., Mary and all the Meighen family. My sincere condolences.

I can clearly remember DD came to our home once for a unexpected visit. He tried to "recruit" me. My parents to join as members. Das was all for it. I eventually did. When we started going together there. DD did his best to lure me into the choir. Well it worked! DD LOVED to talk both inside and outside the church. I will never forget his warm hardy WELL GOOD MORNING EVERYBODY greetings. When it came to preaching and giving sermons. He was so unpredictable that you really never knew when he would finish. When their was lunch dinner events going downstairs in the kitchen. Their was that wonderful eternal aroma of food flowing all over the building. When it was about time to wrap it up for the morning. He would go on and further longer to where I'm Starving! Felt like a sacrifice. Lol. I feel lucky that my years at Central for knowing DD. And the people who followed. Reverend Mary Ellen/Hal Heavner/Dr. J Junius/And the great guy they have now Brad Bennet.

We were at Methesco with DD. Methesco has produced some wonderful servant-leaders, but none greater than this man. I have followed his career with awe and appreciation. His obituary is a fitting testimony to this faithful follower of Jesus.
