Obituary of Frederick A. Showalter Sr.

Frederick A. Showalter, Sr., 77, of Fairmont, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at the Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. He was born on March 20, 1948 in Baxter, the son of the late James C. and Madelyn Osborn Showalter. Frederick is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Alma L. Bartlett Showalter. Frederick worked as a salesman at the Fairmont Paint Center and formerly at the Rivesville Power Plant. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. Frederick was a life member of the VFW Post 629, recipient of the Purple Heart #724 Award, and Marion County Veterans Council. In his spare time, he loved sports, especially the WVU Mountaineers, fishing, camping, bowling, playing softball, and watching NASCAR, where he cheered for his favorite driver, Dale Earnhart. Frederick found his greatest joy in spending precious time with his friends and family, especially his grandkids. In addition to his wife, Frederick is survived by his children, sons, Frederick A. Showalter Jr. and his wife Nicole of Fairview, David L. Showalter of Baxter, daughter, Trulie Ledsome and her significant other Geoff Phillips of Fairmont, stepsons, Bradley Shaffer of Fairmont, and Kyle Shaffer of Levels, and grandchildren, Corey Ledsome and his wife Kayla, Carly Ledsome, Ashley Showalter, and Brooke Showalter; great-grandchildren, Sadie and Archer Ledsome, and brother, Chester Showalter of Fairmont. In addition to his parents, Frederick was preceded in death by his grandson, Brandon Showalter, brother, Charles Showalter, and mother-in-law, Mary J. Bartlett. The family has entrusted the arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont. Friends will be received in the funeral home on Thursday, June 19, 2025 from 1pm until 8 pm and again on Friday, June 20, 2025 from 9 am until 10 am. A service of committal will be held on Friday at 11 am at the West Virginia National Cemetery in Pruntytown, where full military honors will be rendered by the United States Marine Corps and Marion County Honor Guard.
